Two kinds of reverse osmosis (RO) membrane for brackish water (BW) and sea water (SW) respectively were prepared with trimesoyl chloride (TMC) and m-phenylenediamine(MPD) through interfacial polymerization technique on the polysulphone supporting film. They were compared using permeation experiments with salt water, scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) as well as X-ray photoelectronic spectroscopy (XPS) and Atomic force microscopy (AFM). This study has shown that SW RO membrane has higher rejection for NaCl but low flux for water relative to the BW RO membrane, because the surface of SW RO membrane contains more hydrophilic group (-COOH) according to the XPS result and has lower roughness than that of BW RO membrane according to the result of SEM and AFM
