1. Introduction Recently, carbon nanotubes (CNTs), which are grafted on carbon fibers, are used to improve the mechanical properties of carbon/carbon (C/C) composites [1-3]. CNTs could be grafted on fibers with different morphologies such as entangled [1], radially straight [2] or aligned mode [4]. Different morphologies can influence the deposition of pyrocarbon (PyC) in different ways. Obtaining the detailed influencing rule can help us to design the microstructure and then mechanical property of CNT reinforced C/C composites. In this work, CNTs, with two different grafting-morphologies (including radially straight and entangled modes, Fig. 1), were grafted on carbon fibers and their effects on the microstructure of PyC deposited by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) were studied. Based on this investigation, a novel and simple method to fabricate isotropic (ISO) carbon has been proposed.
