Markets for Category 5 cables are growing very fast even though it is known that they won't necessarily be available for the next few years. Today's network speeds require channels capable of transmitting ATM 622 Mbps or 1000 Mbps in Gigabit Ethernet (1000 base T). For this reason, specialized organizations are studying and publishing the new calbe requriements like the new addendum of the EIA/TIA 568 standard on Category 5E, or the drafts of the EIA/TIA Category o or the Anixter levels O and 7.
