IMPROVING THE INTEGRATION OF HUMAN FACTORS INPUTS TO SYSTEM DESIGN

A common lament of human factors practitioners is that their inputs are not solicited early enough in system design. If they are involved early on, their inputs often aren't accepted, or are not properly implemented. Systems engineers responsiblefor the integration of the overall system, however, state that input from these practitioners is often submitted too late or only after an extensive, but unnecessary, research effort. This panel will serve as a forum to discuss common pitfalls in theinteraction between human engineers and systems engineers, and to discuss success stories of teams working together. Topics to be addressed by panelists include methods and tactics that are successful in integrating human factors issues.
