The Use of CPC Rolls at Dofasco

High Speed Steel Rolls were first used in the finishing stands of the Dofasco Hot Mill in 1993. Since 1996, F1 to F4 have used centrifugal cast HSS rolls exclusively. With the success of this program, it was decided to trial the more expensive CPC type HSS rolls. A total of 6 rolls were ordered from 2 Japanese suppliers. The initial 2 pairs went into service in June of 1998 and the 3~(rd) pair in January of 1999. The paper will discuss the results to date of these trials. It will not discuss the metallurgy or manufacturing.
