Hematite iron ore slimes from the Bolani ore processing plant, the captive source of BF grade lump and sinter grade fines to Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) analyzing 59-60 percent Fe was classified in hydrocyclone. The cyclone product assaying 64-65 percent Fe and 60-62 percent recovery was subjected to sinterability test as per the operating sintering plant conditions of 500 mm bed height, 1200-1250 mm wc suction and 1.9 sinter basicity. Tests were conducted by progressive addition of beneficiated slime up to 50 percent In the normal sinter charge and corresponding prepared sinter properties were evaluated. The sinter prepared with 30 percent of slime concentrate had 61.6 percent tumbler index, 72.4 percent yield of +6 mm sinter and productivity of 1.24 t/h.m~2. Sinter agglomerate of this quality is acceptable to BF iron making of DSP opening up possibilities of slime recycling of Bolani mines.
