In order to investigate the effect of restrain condition on the compressive strength of concrete, concrete prisms with the several height/width ratios under compressive loads were analyzed by FEM. Concrete materials were modeled as an elastic strain-hardening plasticity materials in the pre-failure region, and as an elastic and strain-softening materials in the post-cracking region. Under the condition of no slip between concrete and the loading surface, the shorter the height, the higher the peak compressive strength is, and the more extended the triaxial stress state is. It demonstrates that the compressive strength of concrete is highly dependent on restraint condition.
