The Kashiwazaki Kariwa Nuclear Power Station Unit No.6 (K6) is the first plant in the world to use an Advanced Boiling Water Reactor, and incorporates a reinforced concrete containment vessel (RCCV), a first in Japan. A trial monitoring at the RCCV has been carried out about crack pattern and depth on the concrete surface and strength and elastic modulus of concrete. Additionally, the steel reinforcement corrosion has been also investigated in the laboratory using reinforced concrete test specimens. The applicability of these monitoring methods was confirmed for observing the RCCV for a lon period, and as a result, the concrete of the RCCV has been stable for this monitoring period.
