Experimental Set Up and Characterisation of Air-oil Heat Exchangers in Oil Systems for Aero Engines

This paper presents the design and the characteristics of a test set up to characterise Air Cooled Oil Cooler (ACOC) heat exchangers for the aero-engines oil system. The aim of this kind of heat exchangers is to cool the oil with the air flow coming from the fan. The air and the oil circuit are described in details with all the requirements for air and oil flow rates. A list of the different sensors with their precisions is also presented. Different schemes of the installation and pictures are included. Some first results obtained with the described test installation are presented and detailed. This bench will be used to test new ACOC technologies.
