The multi-stage loop-flow flotation process (MSTLFLO) was a recent development in the fine particle/fluid separation area. The separation efficiency of the process was found to be highly dependent on the unique hydrodynamic conditions provided in the MSTLFLO column. A hydrodynamic study was conducted to determine the effects of superficial gas velocity, draft-tube diameter and frother concentration on the gas holdups and the liquid circulation velocity. Based on experimental data, an estimate of gas circulation rate was performed using drift-flux analysis.
