Western Pacific region

摘要

During the International Congress of Headache held in Kyoto, Japan in 2005, we made the 'Kyoto Declaration on Headache'. It was prepared with the support of The Global Campaign to Reduce the Burden of Headache Worldwide' team, led by Dr Timothy Steiner. It states the following. (1) Headache disorders are neurological and affect the brain; (2) among these, migraine is estimated to affect 8.4 million people in Japan, to cause pain and disability in migraine attacks suffered by 600,000 Japanese people every day, to cost the Japanese economy, in lost productivity, 288 billion yen every year, and to burden people and societies throughout the Western Pacific region; and (3) other headache disorders collectively impose additional humanitarian and socioeconomic burdens of at least similar magnitude.
