Innovations in the fields of engineering and automation evolve because of the global competition, as is the case for all other fields. This paper describes the major changes and their effects. The innovations make an impact on the lives of these engineers and other employees so that they need new skills. The traditional classroom education is now no longer a satisfactory way of teaching these skills in the available timeframe. New educational methodologies and technologies are the right solution. This paper gives an overview of these techniques and their impact on the structure and culture of corporations.
