摘要

A brief description of the bicomponent fiber technology, it's functionality and effect on spunbond processes and product properties is provided. It is shown that by choosing the right combination of polymers and their configurations, not only can a better product possessing desired properties be designed and produced with the bicomponent technology, but the spunbond process itself can be significantly improved both technically and economically as well. An illustrative comparison of spunbond fabrics composed of homo vs. bico filaments in terms of structure and properties indicates that with the bicomponent fiber technology ample opportunities can be opened up for spunbond producers to produce superior products with unique characteristics and properties that can not be achieved by homo filament alone.
