Transient free surface waves due to impusive motion of a submerged body

摘要

The problem of a viscous flow past a submerged body starting from rest and moving with a constant velocity, below and parallel to a free surface is examined. Asymptotic expressions for long-time evolution and short-time successive trigger of free-surface elevation are obtained. The results show explicitly the viscous and surface tension effects on the free-surface elevation.
