Engineered wood composites have made considerable strides into the building components markets over the past 3 to 5 years. A formulation's content and quality of materials can affect the mechanical strength, dimensional stability, and part-to-par consistency. The lack of consistency could create roadblocks for the further development of wood composite applications. Efforts are being made to develop performance standards for wood composites. The American Society for Testing and Materials and the American Architectural manufacturers Association have created formal task groups, along with many other cod authorities. these standards will help expedite the acceptance and growth of wood composites in the building products marketplace. As a producer of vinyl extrusions for over 52 years, and now a major producer of wood composite products, we see the need and benefit to establish industry performance standards.
