Geological features encountered in the access devleopment of the mine are described. Some characteristics of the CW orebody are given, including structural observations and the description of six types of ore in a provisional clssification. The importance of shaley bands as a control on the hanginwall is noted. Work on metal zonation has helpted to devleop ideas on CW orebody formation, and it is sugested that the central fissure in the CW orebody marks a feeder source for mineralisation, which produced fluids over at least 300 m of strike length. The influence of weathered fissures on ground conditions and on the behaviour of the Waulsortian aquifer during dewatering is summarised.
