Characterisation of emeralds from the delbegetey deposit, Kazakhstan

The Dellbegetey deposit has been mined for emeralds since early 1980s and produces gem material, but no study of emeralds from this locality has been published. The present article is based on the investigation of twelve samples of emeralds and green beryls from Delbegetey deposit. A study was done of specific gravity, optical properties, structural characteristics, chemical composition and inclusions of emeralds. To compare obtained values of physical and chemical properties, a collection of samples from other emerald deposits of the world and synthetic samples was studied and literature data were taken into account. The same analytic procedures were used with all the samples to obtain reliable analytic results. CHaracteristic features of emeralds from Delbegetey deposit were determined.
