Quality assurance is a tool which, if used correctly, should make you sure of the fact that you will receive the product you have ordered, or if you are a supplier that you will in fact deliver the product that you have promised. This paper presents key elements of quality assurance related to instrumentation projects. By focusing on some key stages during the course of a project, the overall quality will improve. Quality assurance is not an extra, but should underline what you do. The paper also discusses the benefits of applying for a certified quality assurance system, the need and the value of the management commitment involved and the value of regular third party audits as an addition to internal audits. Finally, the paper presents a list of key quality assurance points, the ten commandments of QA, which can be used to keep quality assurance on the right track.
