The objectives of this research were to determine the spatial and temporal changes in biomass distribution in a vapor phase bioreactor, and to examine the effects of nutrient avaiability on bioreactor performance. A labscale bioreactor contamining pelletized ceramic media was operated at a toluene loading rate of 45.8 g/m~3hr. To supply moisture and nutrient to the biofilm, a small amount of modified hydrocarbon minimum media (HCMM) was supplied to the biofilter by means of a nutrient laden aerosol. When the nutrient supply was limiting, the overall bioreactor removal efficiency decline to approximately 80
