SEM-EDAX studies were performed on mineral micro-inclusions contained in pyrite and sphalerite of porphyry-copper and epithermal ore deposits of Barza -Brad, Zlatna and Baia de Aries zones (Metaliferi Mountains). They reveal the presence of complex chlorides that show unusual types and morphologies (daughter phases, mineral arborescent-type microstructures, framboidal and globular shapes). Their chemical composition shows a varying content of Cl, K, Fe, Cu, Au and Zn. This strongly suggests that chloride was the main metal-transport agent during the evolution of chloride-rich solutions passing from magmatic to hydrothermal stages through a "transition domain". This means that complex chlorides could be genetic markers for the link between epithermal and porphyry-copper ore deposits of some Neogene subvolcanic structures in the Metaliferi Mountains.
