A GIS for tree counting and farm management based on multispectral airborne imagery

Under commission from CAPESPAN~(TM), the ARC-ISCW of South Africa acquired DMSV~(TM) (Digital MultiSpectral Video) coverage of the Sundays River Citrus Cooperative (SRCC) using a micro-light platform. The images were processed, georefrenced and mosaiked to create a geographic data base for each single farm of the Cooperative. The OLICOUNT~(TM) procedure developed by the JRC of the European Commission (Ispra, Italy) was adapted to achieve a semi-automatic tree counting, plus an original algorithm was developed. Development is under way to produce a yield forecasting procedure based on benchmarking and expansion of ground based estimates.
