The increased popularity of multimedia applications places a great demand on efficient data storage and transmission techniques. Unfortunately, traditional encryption techniques have some limits for multimedia information, especially image and video, which are considered only to be common data. It is proposed a partial encryption scheme based on JPEG2000 compression. Chaotic cat map is applied to encrypt only those low frequency and high frequency coefficients of image wavelet decomposition before quantization in JPEG2000. Encryption and decryption processing are respectively embedded into encoding and decoding in JPEG2000. And the simulation results indicate that the method greatly reduces time complexity, as well as enhances security.
