The experiment was conducted to study the combustion of micron-sized magnesium particles with steam. The burning of metallic particles is distinguished from the hydrocarbon droplet by the presence of condensed oxides, the oxide removal process should be included in the burning process. As the particle temperature rises up to thousands of Kelvin, the oxide film is removed and the particle is ignited. Therefore it's the ignition and combustion are difficult. In this study, the magnesium/steam/argon flame was achieved as using the swirl combustor. The swirl flow was incorporated into the design of the combustor to increase the residence time of the particle and the mixing performance. Argon has been used as carrier gas to transport the magnesium particles into the combustor. The flame was formed to a long length. The attempt was conducted to measure the position of flame by a simple method of brightness level.
