The availability of data for the rate of change of the measured variable with time and temperature, which automatically flows from a Thermal Analysis experiment, seduces many investigators into the automatic calculation of "Arrhenius parameters" -- the energy of activation and the preexponential factor. The consistency of their values can be thoroughly tested, for example, by some combination of isothermal, isoconversional, jumping and oscillating techniques (in order to avoid any errors arising from false asumptions about the form of the "conversion function"). Then, if all effects of "procedural variables" such as specimen mass, crystallinity and degree of subdivision, purge gas composition, pressure and flow rate, etc., have been quantified, the deduction of useful information from their values about reactions mechanism can be obtained.
