Steps to Implement the US EPA's Risk Management Program Requirements

OSHA's PSM standard forced a number of facilities to examine the process safety aspects of their ammonia refrigeration system. Many of these facilities needed to develop formalized programs and procedures to enhance process safety. However, the focus was on worker safety. Now it is time to re-examine your system once again. However, the focus this time is on whether, or to what extent, the system can impact the public and the environment. Additional resources will likely be needed to upgrade your PSM program into a PSM/RM program. A typical ammonia refrigeration system, which will be a Program 3 source, should be prepared to spend approximately three to six (3-6) man-weeks implementing the RM program requirements.
