The disposal of recycled old concrete as aggregate can become an attractive alternative to the use of natural mineral reserves in concrete. The fact that both mineral aggregates and construction waste dumping space are becoming increasingly scarce, thus it is necessary to find high profile applications for the recovery of such materials. Among the problems that arise in the study, there is the question of the performance of the interphase between recycled aggregate, that is concrete crushed stone, and the hardened cement matrix surrounding it. This interphase region was surveyed in accordance with the acknowledged methodology available in literature for ordinary concrete. A more detailed study was conducted to asses specific properties of the interphase region in recycling concrete. This included individual mineral content determination by mean of scanning electron microscope (SHM) analysis.
