Newly developed techniques and tools that provide remote downhole inflow and injection control without the need for well intervention are now available. These systems offer substantial benefits for reducing operating expense particularly in subsea applications. Such systems also improve the industry's capabilities for active reservoir management which is expected to improve ultimate hydrocarbon recovery. As in the past, the evolution and application of these techniques and related equipment is expected to progress as dictated by the greatest economic opportunity for savings identified by oil and gas operators.
