DISCUSSION INCREASED RECOVERY AND DEVELOPMENT OF HEAVY CRUDE OIL RESERVOIRS

The four papers and four posters in Forum 8 cover the full spectrum of heavy crude recovery. The papers describe the distribution of heavy crude resources and reserves world wide, the latest techniques to access these reserves, methods to coax the reluctant crude through the reservoir and techniques to transport the production to a point of sale. Dr. RICHARD MEYER, on behalf of the Unitar Centre for Heavy Crude and Tar Sands in Canada reviewed the location and characteristics of Heavy Crude Oil Reservoirs around the world. Mr. ERIC DELAMAIDE, from the Institute du Petrole, in France, described some of the latest development in drilling technologies, associated with improved oil recovery of heavy oils. MICHAEL PRATS, from Prats and Associates, a consulting firm in Houston discussed the natural and induced reservoir mechanisms in heavy oil production.
