The monopolar operation of HVDC system causes DC bias current in the transformers and the DC bias current leads to the safety and stability issues of the power system Connecting current suppression resistors to the neutral points of transformers is an effective method to limit the DC bias current. However, current suppression resistors decrease the sensitivity of the zero sequence current protection. Thus, this paper proposes an optimized configuration namely multi-objective fuzzy particle swarm optimization (MOFPSO) algorithm to minimize the total current suppression resistances as well as the DC bias current. At last, the effectiveness and the feasibility of the algorithm is proved by using the Chinese Ximeng-Taizhou ±800kV HVDC system.
