Double layer capacitor using ionic liquids

Double layer capacitor was built and tested using neutral EMIC/AlCl_3 room temperature melt as an electrolyte. Electrodes were made of high surface area carbon. Cell voltage was >3.0 V, capacitance 1.7 F or 1.3 F/g of the assembled cell. Significant increase in capacitance was observed with an increase in operating temperature (25deg C, 82 deg C). E.D. was 1.8 Wh/kg. Charge/discharge cycling of capacitors was also performed.
