The U.S. DOE/FETC Low Quality Natural Gas program is focused on defining, promoting, developing, demonstrating, and conducting rearch opportunities in and guiding the advancement and marketing of innovative low-quality natural gas upgrading of valuable hydrocarbon components from contaminated natural gas through proof of concept scale, with eventual commercial demonstration. Impproving the economics of gas upgrading technologies is a priority for hoint DOE-industry efforts. More cost effective gas purification technologies would allow greater volumes of low quality gas to be marketed. Approximately one-third of our nations natural gas resource is low quality gas that does that does not meet market specifications for pipeline shipment. Advanced upgrading technologies under development will improve uprification techniques while significantly lowring costs.
