The author describes the DC/DC switching converter, voltage-controlled mode, in small-signal (AC) dynamic state, by means of a method that is obtained by the unifying two of the most used modeling methods of these circuits, namely: the state-space averaging method and the injected-absorbed-current method. The resulting method, called the averaged characteristic coefficient method, uses the switched circuit described through the state equations as the starting point and the canonical mathematical model with characteristic coefficients. In this method, the circuit model, obtained through the canonical mathematical model transposition, has a fixed topology, which contains the essential input-output and control-output properties for any switching converter.
