Investigation into Environmental Conditions of the Ob and Taz Bay Shelf Gas Fields

In 1995 - 1997 a complex investigation into environmental conditions of the middle part of the Ob Bay and of the North Western Taz Bay was carried out by EPS ECO-SYSTEM and a number of collaborating institutions. It included hydrometeorological, ice, geomorphological, geocryological, biological and ecological studies. The preliminary results include the characteristics of temperature and wind regime and weather phenomena, characteristics of water temperature and salinity, sea level, currents and waves, ice conditions, permafrost distribution, biological characteristics of the region, and existing level of water and shore pollution. A general description of the results and analysis of the further necessary activities are presented in this paper.
