Certainly, the Internet has achieved extraordinary growth and distinction over a few short years and is perceived as the catalyst for a communications revolution. However, there remains a host of key technology-related issues. The most salient is the glaring need to transparently and efficiently link the various networks comprising our overall communications environment as we know it today. Those broad problematic areas are security, monitoring, administration, scaling, protocols, performance, latency, etc. Rather than undertaking lengthy discussions on each issue, this paper concentrates on a single aspect of ways to make Internet information services scale better. In this paper, caching of Internet objects is described and implemented in the context of a common IP software platform known as GeoPlex. Caching is one of the components of the GeoPlex platform, and its implementation is described, and compared to other existing solutions. For describing caching in GeoPlex, an introduction to the GeoPlex platform is provided.
