NTT's advanced intelligent network (IN) provides telecommunication services by using service logic programs (SLPs). These programs are executed on service-independent platforms in service control points (SCPs). The source codes of the SLPs are automatically generated in a service creation environment (SCE) by describing the service specifications in graphical form. We propose using extended message sequence charts (E-MSCs) for describing the service specifications of the advanced IN. The E-MSCs are used to represent the service procedures between the network and users. We previously proposed using the E-MSCs for describing general service specifications. By adding new descriptive elements, they can also be used to describe the service specifications of the commercial advanced IN. Three types of programs executed to provide telecommunication services are also described.
