A review of methods used for deriving sea-floor reflectance and water diffuse attenuation from remotely sensed data is conducted. Emphasize is made on inverse methods applied to remote sensing of ocean properties. Then an inverse scheme for the retrieval of optically active components in coastal shallow-waters is described and validated. The proposed method is based on synthesized reflectance database and an optimization tool. A sensibility analysis is conducted and shows that the method is robust, even for extreme environmental conditions, if the database covers the variable ranges.
