In this paper, large-scale ATM switching fabrics based on Clos network are studied and several typical architectures and their cell-level routing algorithms are exploited. The random mapping (RM) algorithm, an independent routing algorithm, is simple but its switch throughput performance is poor, and the straight matching (SM) algorithm, a dependent routing algorithm has beeter switch delay/throughput performance but its implementation is complicated. A new cell-level large-scale ATM switching fabrics is proposed and its routing algorithms are described extensively.
