One major problem in continuous casting is the entrapment of argon bubbles, mould flux and other nonmetallic inclusions such as alumina in the solidifying shell. The degree of steel cleanliness that can be reached is significantly influenced by the steel flow phenomena in the liquid core of the strand and especially in the mould.
