Environmental issues are becoming increasingly important in a wide range of industries and refractories and its user industries are no exception. Amongst the main concerns relating to refractories are the emissions evolved during production and during the service of refractory components and the disposal of spent materials after their period of service. In much of the developed world atmospheric emission regulations are becoming increasingly stringent. Meanwhile as many land-fill sites are approaching their maximum capacity, anti-dumping levies are being applied to encourage consumers to find alternative strategies to dumping.
