The authors are to be complimented on presentation of this paper. Augmentation of water treatment plants to extend the capacity and/or improve the quality of the effluent from existing demineralizer systems is becoming attractive to more and more users of demineralized water. These changes are attractive not only in terms of reducing the costs of water production and reliability of system operation, but there are ever increasing pressures to reduce both the volume and dissolved solids content of wastes to be discharged from plant sites.
