Packed-Bed Technology: Review of Design Parameters

Having reviewed some key parameters in design of packed-bed systems it should be possible to conclude which system is the best. However the selection of one system over another will be largely dictated by: 1. the quality of water required, 2. the operating conditions: 2.1. regenerant consumption, 2.2. reduction in waste water 2.3. service flowrates (min./max.) 2.4. the capital cost of the system. For a new installation, where water quality is important while still operating at high efficiencies and discharging a minimum volume of waste water, an upflow service / downflow regeneration system, is the system of choice.
