Saldanha Steel is a new, green-field, semi-integrated steelworks developed on the west coast near the southern tip of Africa. The harbour in Saldanha Bay was developed as an iron ore export facility for Sishen ore in the late seventies. The Sishen Iron Ore Mine is located some 800 km inland and is currently exporting about 17 million tons annually.
