Pitch-Based Carbon Fiber with Improved Compressive Strength

摘要

A high performance pitch-based carbon fiber (Granoc YSH series) has been newly developed by Nippon Graphite Fiber Corporation (NGF). YSH fiber exhibits about 25-40percent higher compressive strength than fibers manufactured by NGF up to this time, in the tensile modulus range 400-750 GPa. This compressive strength seems to be the highest level in commercially available pitch-based carbon fibers at present. YSH fiber also shows high tensile modulus, high strength and excellent yarn handleability because of its small 7 mu m diameter. The fiber is manufactured using newly developed pitch with an improved spinning process, and it is expected to have wide applications not only in aerospace but also in civil industries.
