Adhesive Properties of a Carbon Fiber Blanket on to the Concrete Surfaces

The adhesive properties of a carbon fiber blanket on to the concrete surfaces were examined in terms of the effect brought on this property by differences in the strength of concrete, in the length of pasted blanket strip and in the number of sheet layers pasted. The results of measurements on 16 test specimens indicated relatively little influence on the proof load exerted by differences in concrete strength and in blanket strip length. Increasing the number of sheet layers, on the other hand, proved to enhance the proof load by more than 40percent in the case of normal concrete and by more than 60percent in the case of high-strength concrete. This enhancement of proof load can be attributed to increase of rigidity brought to the carbon fiber blanket with augmenting number of pasted layers, which has the effect of distributing the adhesive stress over a wider area of pasted blanket.
