On the Definition and Graphical Representation of Non-axisymmetric Filament Winding Patterns

The non-axisymmetric filament winding techniques have already been widely used in industry. Since the shapes of mandrel surfaces are of great varieties and can be quite complex, the definition of non-axisymmetric filament winding patterns is far from well established. This paper gives a precise definition of the non-axisymmetric filament winding patterns by introducing specific types of traversable networks and their traversable paths in the parametric plane of a mandrel surface to represent the actual non-axisymmetric filament winding process, based upon which a simple graphical representation of a filament winding pattern is obtained.
