Inter-relations between diesel engine combustion noise and exhaust emissions under varied running conditions

There are, apart from the noise emission demands, increasing contradictive demands on combustion engine powered vehicles. The demands are such as fuel economy, low weight, low cost, high quality and last but not least a number of exhaust emissioncomponents. Therefore, the design of future engines will comprise complex optimisations that will include a number of parameters. Optimisations where multiple factors are taken into account are necessary in order to efficiently reduce the overallemissions from combustion engines.
