This paper discusses experiments performed in the development of a mechanistic approach for modeling the formation and removal of ozonation byproducts in biologically active drinking water filters. Results from batch biodegradation experiments for pyruvate and methylglyoxal are presented and discussed. Further work is underway to verify the batch results in bench-scale biofilters.
