The effect of ultrasonic treatment on the properties of coal water slurry(CWS), such as slurryability, rheological behavior and static stability, were investigated. The ultrasonic intensity was varied from 40 w/cm~2 to 80 w/cm~2 and treatment time from 2 to 10 minutes. Ultrasound treatment promoted a distinct improvement in both rheological behavior and static stability of CWS, but at same time it caused a slight increase in the apparent viscosity of CWS. The analysis of particle size distribution indicated that ultrasonic treatment resulted in a higher proportion of fine coal which benefits to improve the rheological behavior and static stability of CWS.
