Rigid PVC pellet and flexible PVC pellet were treated in 0approx7M NaOH solutions at 150approx250 deg C for 0approx12h. The degree of dehydrochlorination of flexible PVC pellet and rigid PVC pellet increased with increasing of reaction temperature, and reached almost 100percent at 250 deg C over 5h. The porous char, 2approx16 mum in the pore size, was produced. The dehydrochlorination of flexible PVC and rigid PVC proceeded by the first order reaction with respect to the degree in the alkaline solutions. Maximum rate of the dehydrochlorination for flexible PVC reached at 5M NaOH and that for rigid PVC at 3M NaOH. THe apparent activation energies were 22approx35kcal/mol in 1approx7M NaOH for flexible PVC and 23kcal/mol in 3M NaOH for rigid PVC.
