摘要

(1) The crossed polarizing theory of total reflection, generated due to the introduction of the crossed polarizing principle to the gem refractometer, is distinguished from the crossed polarizing theory of either the transmitted light or the reflective light. (2) The extinction types presented in a crossed polarizing refractometer are classified as total extinction, double extinction and non-extinction. (3) Taking advantage of the positions of double extinction, one can quickly obtain models of refractivity indexes and correctly determine the optical parameters based on fewer measuring points than before. Furthermore, all optical parameters can be measured on the stage face.
